Bring the tackle you know
We recommend bringing your usual rods, reels and trusted lures. Distances between specialist shops are considerable in northern Finland, and a small town may have only a limited selection. Arriving prepared means more time by the water and fewer shopping detours.
Specialist shops on the journey
Larger towns usually offer more choice. Oulu, Rovaniemi and Kuusamo can be useful stops, depending on your route. Check current opening hours and stock before making a special trip.
- Ruoto: a fishing retailer with shops and an online range; check its current locations.
- Kuusamon Uistin factory shop in Kuusamo: an option for anglers interested in Finnish spoons and lures.
- Eumer in Merikarvia: of particular interest to fly anglers, but a substantial detour unless it fits your journey.
Ordering online
Finnish online shops can be useful for specific equipment, but do not depend on a fixed one-to-three-day delivery promise. Allow time, check stock and confirm whether delivery is to an address or a collection point. Agree any delivery to the holiday house with us first.
The original guide mentions Ruoto and Kalastus.com for fishing equipment. Verify the seller and the exact product rather than assuming every general accessories website is a fishing specialist.
Basic supplies without a specialist stop
Larger supermarkets and outdoor or automotive retailers sometimes stock rods, line, hooks and lures. Depending on the town, check Prisma, Motonet, XXL or Tokmanni. A local branch may carry only a seasonal range; Ranua's selection is more limited than that of a larger city.
Brands you may recognise
Finnish names include Rapala, Kuusamo and Marttiini knives. StrikeMaster and Mora Ice are associated with ice-fishing equipment. International brands such as Shimano, Abu Garcia, Daiwa and Berkley can also be found through shops and online retailers, with availability varying.
Plan once, then fish
Buy specialised items before reaching the lodge when possible. For replacement line or a few basic lures, a general shop may be enough. Check the equipment already available at Mökki Tikka, and bring personal favourites or specialist tackle you would miss.
