Why Lapland keeps drawing us back

Why Lapland keeps drawing us back

A moment that stays with us

It is more than the quiet or the open landscape. Coming back to Lapland feels like coming home inside.

One afternoon, the light seemed almost motionless. Snow lay thick on the branches. I was walking alone through the forest, hearing only my boots crunching and a jay calling in the distance.

Then came something I had often looked for but rarely found: nothing demanding my attention. No appointment, no pressure. Just that moment. I stopped, put my hand on a birch tree and closed my eyes. There was room to breathe, inside as well as outside. That is why we come back.

What makes us return?

It is not only the lake, the scenery or the peace. Here, we feel that we can simply be ourselves. We notice the light and our surroundings instead of watching the clock or thinking about what we ought to achieve.

Guests sometimes tell us, “I haven’t slept this deeply in ages,” or, “I never knew snow could have so many colours.”

Chopping wood for the sauna, watching birds by the frozen lakeshore or sitting in the warm steam gives the day a simple purpose. These moments are small, but they matter to us.

Our place to pause

When everyday life feels too full, we want somewhere that asks less of us. Lapland is that place for us: a retreat, and room to be ourselves.
