A quiet natural area

If you prefer open space to busy campsites and crowded viewpoints, Simojärvi–Soppana offers woodland, water and a sense of wilderness. Simojärvi covers 63.7 km² and is a long, clear, unregulated lake. Soppana is an 11 km² protected old-growth forest area with mature trees and rare species. The area belongs to the Natura 2000 network and Finland’s old-growth forest conservation programme.

What to expect

  • Clear water, quiet bays and sandy shores.
  • Walking routes through pine forests.
  • Rest areas, campfire sites and shelters, for example at Porosaari and Korvanjokisuu.
  • Marked routes for different levels of experience, revised in 2021.
  • Opportunities for canoe trips, cycling or simply spending time in the forest.

You can also plan a night outdoors beneath the stars.

Your base: Mökki Tikka

From our house, you can plan day trips or longer outings. Return to tea on the terrace in the evening, or arrange an overnight trip. Choose the pace that suits you.

Leave the noise behind, breathe the forest air and spend time outside without a full timetable.
