Snowshoeing around Ranua and Impiö

Explore snowy woodland, clearings and the shores around the cabin on snowshoes. Three sizes of snowshoes are available free of charge at the house. Additional equipment can be rented from our partner and caretaker, Juha Impiö.

Weather in Lapland can change quickly. Heavy snow and poor visibility make navigation difficult. Spring thaw also brings hazards, particularly on frozen lakes. For longer outings, we recommend a guide.

Independent outings

Begin with a short walk close to the house and gradually increase the distance as you get used to the snow, terrain and effort. Short woodland or lakeside routes can suit families and beginners when conditions allow.

• Check the weather forecast before setting out.
• Do not set out into a snowstorm or travel far in poor visibility.
• Only go onto a frozen lake when ice conditions have been confirmed safe.

Juha knows the woodland and routes around Impiö and Ranua. He can adapt the distance and pace to your group and share information about local nature, wildlife and culture.
