Family holidays in Lapland: nature and time together

Family holidays in Lapland: nature and time together

A holiday with time to spare

Many families are looking for more than a destination. They want time outdoors, less noise and fewer scheduled activities. A stay at Mökki Tikka gives you a lakeside base where a day need not be full to feel worthwhile.

A day at the cottage

You might sit on the terrace and listen to the trees, watch birds over the lake or notice a squirrel at the forest edge. Sometimes reindeer pass through the surrounding area, though wildlife sightings cannot be planned.

Children can become absorbed in building, playing and exploring with what they find. Adults can join in or enjoy a quiet moment nearby. Water, fire and tools still need age-appropriate supervision.

Simple things to do together

  • Breakfast outdoors or fishing by the lake.
  • Picking berries in season and learning about mushrooms with someone who can identify them.
  • Preparing a fire when permitted, making pancakes or grilling sausages.
  • Badminton, outdoor darts, a walk or watching birds.
  • A sauna and a relaxed evening at the house.

Together without doing everything together

One person can read on the terrace while another fishes and the children play nearby. Later you might go berry-picking together or leave someone time for yoga. Sharing a holiday does not mean following one programme all day.

Why choose a holiday home?

At Mökki Tikka, you set your own meal times and daily rhythm. The lake is in front of you and the forest close behind. The kitchen and sauna make it possible to enjoy time at the house itself.

If you want help, ask us about transfers, shopping, excursions or guided activities. These arrangements need planning; you can also choose a quiet day without an outing.

Seasons and mosquitoes

Different seasons bring different light, weather and activity options. Quieter periods can suit families who want fewer distractions. In summer, mosquitoes are part of the outdoors. Numbers vary with weather, place and date; suitable clothing and protection help.

Questions from families

Is Lapland suitable for children?

It can suit families who enjoy nature, time together and adjusting plans to the weather.

Do we need a car?

A rental car is useful for shopping and excursions from this secluded location. Without one, arrange transfers and supplies in advance.

Holiday home or hotel?

A house offers space, a kitchen and flexibility. A hotel may suit you better if you want meals and services organised for you.

Will mosquitoes spoil the holiday?

That depends on the conditions and your tolerance. Prepare for them rather than assuming there will be none.

Our favourite memories are often small ones: time on the terrace, a shared fire or an evening after the sauna.
